Welcome to the Winnipeg Youth Orchestra's (WYO) website. This site was designed for both members of the orchestras as well as others who wish to know what we are all about or would like to join.
The WYO is the oldest of its kind in Canada. Organized in 1923, it has been successful ever since in giving aspiring, young musicians an opportunity to develop their talent. It is comprised of the Youth Strings Orchestra ( formerly known as the Junior Strings), the Youth Concert Orchestra, and the Youth Symphony, allowing youth of varying age and skill level to participate.
All three youth orchestras rehearse every Saturday, from September to May. Every year the orchestras give concerts in Winnipeg, in different parts of Manitoba and the United States.
In the past few years the orchestras have played with the Philharmonic Choir, performed at the Bach Festival, participated in the Youth Concerto Competition, and have given joint concerts with the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra, the Minneapolis Youth Orchestra, and the Hamilton Youth Orchestra.
