Audition requirements for the three levels of the orchestras are as follows:
Youth Strings OrchestraAuditions for the Youth Strings will be on Saturday, April 14, 2012 at Gordon Bell High School, from 8:30-4. To be eligible for the Youth Strings, a candidate should be in school grade three or higher with a minimum playing level of Grade 5 RCM or Book 3 Suzuki. The audition will include the following:
- A piece of the candidate's own choice of approximately 3 minutes
- A 2 or 3 octave scale of choice
- A sight-reading portion chosen by the conductor
The Youth Strings rehearse Saturday mornings from September to May at Gordon Bell High School from 9:15 a.m. to 12:00 noon. For further information about the Youth Strings Orchestra, please contact the conductor, Karin Klassen,at kiklassen@shaw.ca or phone 837-2003.
Youth Concert OrchestraAuditions for the Youth Concert Orchestra will be on Saturday, April 21, 2012 at Kelvin High School from 9-3:30. To be eligible for the Concert Orchestra, a candidate should be in school grade seven or higher with a minimum playing level equivalent to music Grade 6+ RCM. The audition will include the following:
- A piece of the candidate's own choice of approximately 3 minutes
- A 2 or 3 octave scale of choice
- A sight-reading portion chosen by the conductor
The Concert Orchestra rehearses Saturday mornings from September to May at Kelvin High School from 9 a.m. to 11:15 a.m. For questions about the Youth Concert Orchestra, please contact the conductor, Andrea Bell, at rsq@mts.net or 488-4263.
Youth Symphony OrchestraAuditions for the Youth Symphony Orchestra will be on Saturday, April 21, 2012 at Kelvin High School from 9:00am-3:30. Please contact the parent liaison, Elllen Davis at elod@shaw.ca or phone 668-0059 for an audition time. To be eligible for the Youth Symphony, a candidate should be in school grade ten or higher with the maximum age of 21 upon registration in September. A minimum playing level equivalent to music Grade 9+ RCM is required. The audition will include the following:
- A piece of the candidate's own choice of approximately 3 minutes
- A 2 or 3 octave scale of choice
- A sight-reading portion chosen by the conductor
The Youth Symphony rehearses Monday evenings from 5:30 to 8:00 pm. from September to May at Westgate Mennonite Collegiate. For information about the Youth Symphony Orchestra, please contact the conductor, Daniel Scholz, at scholz.danielp@gmail.com or 488-4263.
Sign up sheets for the auditions will be available at the last few rehearsals of the season. A combination audition and registration form is available in PDF and Word format. Please fill this form out and bring it to the audition with you; if you are auditioning for more than one of the orchestras, please bring a copy of the form to each.
